    I agree with what you say about ‘You’ve Got a Friend’, but the music is wonderful–which one listens to accompanied by stray comments of the text. Not being musically very literate, I can only say I enjoyed the simple blocks of chords at the beginning that give one the feeling of (for once) being able to understanding such a piece of temporary sound-architecture. And then became increasingly intrigued by the subtly complex harmonies and counterpoints: violas (or cellos?), guitar, and other instuments I didn’t catch. Carol King has crescendos for the most sentimental words – yet the, independent of the words, the wave-like patterns of louder and softer passages are attractive in themselves.

    Well, there you are. You enact the principle that “Condemnation is non-comprehension”. You put yourself out to find the best in it, and you do find the best in it – unlike my grumpy prejudiced views!
